1000 g beef (shank or chuck) 20 mm cubes,
120 g lard,
250g onion chopped,
caraway seeds
garlic
20g paprika powder (sweet and hot)
2 teaspoon salt and half teaspoon black pepper,
100g tomato chopped,
200g green pepper sliced,
100 ml red wine,
Chop the onion into small pieces and wilt it in lard. Reduce the heat, add the paprika, stir, then add the meat and salt. When the meat is well browned add spices and herbs. Cover the pot and simmer the pörkölt. Stir occasionally. If necessary add water, but very sparingly! Do not boil the meat, it should be almost fried. When the meat begins to soften, add the green pepper, tomatoes cut into cubes and red wine. Simmer until the meat is tender.
